2 Corinthians 06

V1-2 Are the fellow workers… God, Paul, the Corinthians, us, or a mixture?

See 2 Corinthians 18,20. How much responsibility do the workers carry?

What is the work of the workers? See 1 Corinthians 3:9. 2 Corinthians 5:18-20.

What do the workers need in order to do the work? What does it mean to receive God’s grace?

See Psalm 95:7-11. Isaiah 49:8. Hebrews 3:13, 4:7. Why the sense of urgency?

V3 What are possible stumbling blocks or offences we could cause?

Does this verse conflict with 1 Corinthians 1:18-25?

See 1 Corinthians 9:22, 10:32-33.

V4-10 How does this account not put a stumbling block in anyone’s path? How does it commend Paul?

Looking at the negatives identify the sources.  Did good come from them?

Look at positives: Do they counter the negatives? What was their source? Did good come from them?

Is this an account of Paul’s life or is it meant to teach us something? If yes, what?

See 2 Corinthians 4:8, 12:10. Philippians 4:11-12.Romans 5:3-4.

Acts 17:5.

Do any or all of the experiences in these verses happen to Christians today? Do any apply to you?

V11-13 Does V11 refer to V4-10? Does Paul’s argument win you over?

Did it win over the Corinthians?

Do we have affections that restrict us?

How do phrases like withholding your [affection] apply to us?  Do we need to open wide [our] hearts?

V14-18 Old testament yoke refers to bondage: 1 Kings 12:4, Jeremiah 28:48

V14 has often been applied to marriage. What are examples other than marriage where this teaching applies?  (See Deuteronomy 22:10)

Are your friendships/fellowships like light and dark? (see V14)

What harmony is there in them? (See V15)

Does this only apply to religious “yoking” - see V16. Are there contemporary practical applications of V16?

V17 could suggest being a hermit.  How far should you take this? Also Revelations 18:4.

Does Matthew 11:29-30 work? (Take my yoke…) See Lamentations 3:27. Galatians 6:2.

See warnings and contrasts in 1 Corinthians 15:33 (bad company). James 4:4 (friendship with world=enmity with God). 1 Peter 2:9-10 (chosen people). Ephesians 5:6-14 (children of light).

See 1 Kings 18:21 (wavering).

Compare V16 and 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

V17 can lead to being a hermit.  How far should you take this? Revelations 18:4.

V18: see John 1:12. Romans 8:14-17.
